WHY STOP AT SATISFIED? tm

NexTier Bank is committed to the security of your account information. Our goal, quite simply, is to minimize your exposure to risk and reduce the impact of any fraud. To that end, following are two measures recently implemented by NexTier Bank:

Temporary NexTier Debit Card Block

Due to a number of fraudulent out-of-state debit card transactions, the block on Point of Sale transactions must remain in place for transactions over $50.00 at merchant locations outside Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Delaware, New Jersey and Arizona . We also recently adjusted our debit card limits at grocery stores, gas pumps, restaurants, and drug stores from $50.00 to $150.00.

You may use your retail debit card to do any PIN purchases or cash withdrawals at any ATM with the PLUS® or PULSE® logo without any block

We regret having to take this action, but felt it was necessary to protect customer privacy. We hope to have this block in place only on a temporary basis. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your local NexTier branch or our Customer Care Center at 1-800-262-1088.

State-of-the-Art Fraud Protection for You

We are implementing a new service effective May 1, 2010 that monitors your ATM and debit card transactions for potentially fraudulent activity. This state-of-the-art fraud protection solution guards against unauthorized use of your debit card. This may include a sudden change in locale (such as when a U.S.-issued card is used unexpectedly overseas), a sudden string of costly purchases, or any pattern associated with fraud trends around the world.

If we suspect fraudulent ATM or debit card use, NexTier Bank’s Fraud Department will call you to validate the legitimacy of your transactions. Your immediate response to the call is critical, since this can prevent potential risk and help avoid restrictions we may place on the card’s use.

The automated call will:

  • Ask you to verify recent transaction activity on your card

  • Request a response via your touchtone keypad

  • Provide you with a toll-free number to call with additional questions

To ensure that the Fraud Department can reach you whenever potential fraud is detected, please make certain that your phone number and address information are current with us.

Please be diligent in monitoring transaction activity on your account, and call the Fraud Department immediately if you suspect fraud. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, either toll-free at 1-800-262-2024 within the United States or collect at 1-973-682-2652 if you reside or are traveling outside the United States.

Protect yourself

1. Unless absolutely required for a legitimate business purpose, avoid giving your:

  • Address and zip code
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Card or account number
  • Card expiration date

Your PIN is private; NEVER give it out.

2. In stores and at ATMs, always cover your card and PIN, and watch for:

  • Cell phone cameras, mirrors, or other tools used to view cards and PINs
  • People watching your transactions
  • Cashiers taking your card out of sight; take it to the register yourself
  • Any unusual activity at ATMs; if you feel uncomfortable, go to another ATM

3. When online, you should never respond to unsolicited emails that:

  • Ask you to verify your card or account number; since legitimate businesses do not send this type of email
  • Link to websites; such sites can look legitimate but may collect data or put spyware on your computer
