NexTier Bank Makes $100,000 Commitment to EconomicsPennsylvania
Margaret Irvine Weir, President of NexTier Bank has announced a two year, $100,000 contribution to EconomicsPennsylvania, the largest not for profit economic education organization in the Commonwealth serving the K-12 school population. NexTier Bank funds will be used to help underwrite classroom program costs throughout the Butler County community which include workshops and seminars for teachers; activities for students and parents; materials and the creation and development of new curricula.
Andy Russell, former star linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, a member of the Economics Pennsylvania Board of Directors and now Chairman of Laurel Mountain Partners, called the contribution ... “generous beyond measure and one that will have an enormous impact on our ability to provide important and critical educational programs to school districts, teachers, students and parents. The vision of Margaret Irvine Weir and the NexTier organization to guide and support this donation, given in the name of kids, is an outstanding example of personal citizenship and superb corporate philanthropy which I hope others will consider and emulate. Never before has the teaching of capitalism, the free enterprise system and entrepreneurship been more timely or needed and no one does it better than EconomicsPennsylvania," Russell said.
As part of his comments, Russell also announced that the current EconomicsPennsylvania Center for Economic Education housed at Butler County Community College will be renamed the NexTier Bank Center for Economic Education at Butler County Community College.
“We are delighted to partner with NexTier Bank to promote greater economic literacy in grades K-12,” said Professor David C. Huseman, Director of the Center for Economic Education at Butler County Community College. “The funding by NexTier will enable the Center to provide instructional programs that demonstrate important economic concepts and the economic reasoning process. As a result, students will be prepared to make economically sound choices as consumers, employees, and citizens,” he said.
