Raider Stadium to be renamed NexTier Stadium
EVANS CITY, PA – April 11, 2006 – At its meeting on April 10, Seneca Valley School District’s board of education approved NexTier Bank’s purchase of the naming rights for its formerly named Raider football stadium. Its new name will be Nextier Stadium, given NexTier’s 10-year commitment of $50,000 plus the expense of the new stadium signage to the school district.
Ties between the bank and the communities served by the school district span NexTier’s 128-year history. Formerly Citizens National Bank, the bank has provided financial services to individuals, families, organizations, and businesses in this area since opening its doors.
It is believed that this is the first partnership of its kind in Western Pennsylvania whereby a high school stadium takes the name of a corporate sponsor, according to Greg Caprara, athletic director for the school district.
At the school board meeting, Margaret Irvine Weir, NexTier’s fourth-generation president, addressed the board and commented on the partnership between NexTier and the school district. Her father, S. J. “Buzz” Irvine, the bank’s former president and current chairman of the board, played linebacker position for Evans City High School (now Seneca Valley) from 1947-1950 and was an All-American.
“NexTier Bank has a long history in this area,” said Dr. Donald J. Tylinski, Seneca Valley superintendent. “It only seems fitting that we would combine efforts with an organization deeply rooted in our community.”
Early planning for stadium signage includes a NexTier Stadium name above the stadium entrance, the NexTier logo bar across visitors’ side bleachers, and NexTier logo flags on light posts. The signage may be erected before the district’s June 2, 2006 graduation at the stadium. First festivities will take place Friday, September 8, when the Seneca Valley football team holds its first home game of the 2006-2007 school year.
